UPDATE ON DOMINICA’S WAITUKUBULI NATIONAL TRAIL : Discover Dominica, the Nature Island

UPDATE ON DOMINICA’S WAITUKUBULI NATIONAL TRAIL

Hiking-the-WNT webExciting progress continues on Dominica's famed Waitukubuli National Trail, which traverses the length of the island. Portions of the treasured trail sustained damage during last year's massive tropical storm. All segments of the trail are now passable for hiking.

Work continues on Segments 1 and 5 to help reduce the risk of landslides. Segment 1, which traverses from Scotts Head to Soufriere Estate, is now rated a difficult hike (previously moderate) that requires rope climbing about one hour into the hike. In addition, hikers are asked to exercise caution at the first gorge crossing on Segment 1.

Hikers are reminded that inclement weather can have an adverse effect on the trail. As a safety precaution, the use of guides is recommended for all hikers, no matter what their experience level. Details on the trail, including sites and attractions along each segment, are available at www.waitukubulitrail.com.
